The Celtic New Year occurred this weekend and New Years often elicits a kind of examination of conscience and a critical look into one’s soul while anticipating a better year.
Here we are in a season of a presidential and senatorial election of immense consequence for our nation, the world, and certainly for the planet. Survival of us and the Earth as we know it with its many amazing gifts and species is at stake. A few letters and correspondences have crossed my desk this weekend that shed light on what faces us.
From Erich Fromm, Escape from Freedom:
When Fascism came into power, most people were unprepared, both theoretically and practically. They were unable to believe that man could exhibit such propensities for evil, such lust for power, such disregard for the rights of the weak, or such yearning for submission. Only a few had been aware of the rumbling of the volcano preceding the outbreak.
Evil is real. Ordinary people and large corporations and many professors in academia supported Hitler and his fascist project.
From a resident in Arizona:
Our state is really scary!!!! It is a toss up now with T&P having made it their second home for the last number of weeks knowing how critical it is to their re-election. I know only too well how our age and educated folks here predominantly are behind T because it’s all about “show me the money” and their feeling is T has and will continue to line their pockets!
Morality in how we think of things isn’t on their radar screens. It’s all about the almighty dollar and at all cost keep the economy going forward no matter the virus.
I am so nervous that this election isn’t going to go the way it needs to in order to save what we know and cherish about our democracy. All we can hope for is that… the many who have already voted in US numbering nearly as many who voted in all of 2016 election will show that there is a majority who cares about morality on so many different fronts that they’ve cast their votes as we need them to!
The only way this is going to be victorious for our country we care so much about is if it is overwhelmingly B&H otherwise every state will be challenged by T&P and they have the court which will support them. I just can’t, or better said, don’t want to imagine what to imagine come Tuesday and beyond as all the votes are counted!!!
From “Obituaries for the American Dream,”* forwarded to me from Iceland, where the New York Times asked people: “When did the American Dream die for you?” One responder wrote: When I realized just how many of my fellow Americans valued selfishness over community, power over justice, prejudice over fairness, greed over generosity, demagogy over science.
Yes, voting season is upon us and Community, morality, justice, fairness, generosity and science are on the ballot.

Queries of Contemplation
What are you feeling during this election season, during this Celtic New Year? How are you putting those feelings into constructive and compassionate action?

All Saints Day has found me asking this question:
What good is all the time spent in meditation if my higher mind (Buddhi in Sanskrit) is not developed? When sitting on my meditation pillow am I reflecting on my current view or can I calm my breath enough to allow an opening to the New?
Carolyn Myss describes this experience with the analogy of an apartment building. Those living on the basement level see bars on their windows and only the feet of passersby. Those who have discovered another view is possible move to the ground floor and have light in their window and see the faces of passersby. Perhaps, with nsincere purpose and practice, another and another move to the second and third floors allow views of trees and the park across the street and the expanse of sky.
Reading about this U.S. election gives me the sinking feeling that most of the TV watching citizenry is stupefied into staying in that basement apartment. We believe that our two party system can protect us from the technocratic tyranny we face coming from The World Economic Forum and philanthrocapitalists like Gates. The seeds around the world have been held for ransom by Monsanto. Our economies are being transformed into social credit systems that require every moment of our lives to be under surveillance. The medical mafia prevents access to nature’s remedies and forces treatment we cannot afford that leaves us damaged with a laundry list of side affects. Our local police forces are military weapon equipped against us. The media is owned by a mere 6 corporations and receive Gates Foundation funding and ad revenue from Big Pharma that determines what we are allowed to know about.
The “solutions” for controlling the spread of the virus have included murdering people with ventilators, sending sick people to unprepared nursing homes to infect others, mask wearing that cannot stop the airborne virus and cause illness by blocking the exhalation of exosomes. We now face looming food supply interruption and scarcity and FEMA is advertising jobs for hire. Our businesses are closing.. Canada is preparing legislation to manage quarantine camps.
Can we risk the limited view from the basement that offers us only the divide of Trump vs. Biden? Can we move up to the third floor and see the reality that all of the passersby are being subjugated by those who also are dictating what Trump and Biden say and do?
This is my plea and my prayer to the Saints.
I stand in unity with all who cherish beauty and goodness with reverence and respect. Presence alone drives out evil. May we have courage and strength to not waiver in our faith, hold onto hope and move forward in love.
