I write this on the day of the funeral for Alexei Navalny who died for a more just Russia.

“‘The fix is in’: Coup trial delay reveals Supreme Court ‘in cahoots’ with Trump.” MSNBC

I pause our meditations on him, Sr. Dorothy Stang, Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth who all stood up for justice to reflect with you on what happened this Wednesday. The Supreme Court decided to take the Trump immunity case beginning only on April 22.  Most likely this will postpone his trial of insurrection until after the November election.

What does one say about a Supreme Court that demonstrates without a shadow of a doubt that it does not give a damn about American voters?

Doesn’t it seem that informing voters before a presidential election about whether one presidential candidate is a felon or not who worked to overthrow the last election might be a timely and pressing issue?

“Chris Hayes On Breaking Supreme Court Decision To Hear Trump’s Immunity Case.” The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

About said candidate asserting that a president is above the law and is immune from prosecution of any crimes committed while president (including, his lawyer says, sending a SEAL team to kill a political opponent if he chooses)?

About whether a candidate leading the bedlam all Americans saw on live TV on January 6, 2021 is worthy to be president again?

That this issue should not move to the front of the burner is an outrage.

One long-time court watcher commented that all pretense is off about this so-called court. Six of its judges “are not judges but republicans in black robes” who are making way for this ex-president to get off scot-free.

One headline says the Supreme Court “aids and abets” Trump by this delay.

This supreme court is a supreme joke.

A laughing stock to the world.

And a supreme menace and supreme danger .

It is destroying any semblance of respect for law and jurisprudence in this country.

“‘It is unimaginable to me the former president will be tried before November,’ says Judge Luttig.” MSNBC

Respected appellate judge Michael Luttig, well known for his conservatism, was on television Wednesday practically crying for what this decision means for the future of American democracy.

He said, “there was no reason in this world for the Supreme Court to take this case.”  Praising the three-judge panel of the Court of Appeals for their “masterful opinion denying the president’s claims of absolute immunity,” he insisted that SCOTUS could have decided this “very quickly” but instead granted Trump the delay he so desired.

To be continued.

Sins of the Spirit, Blessings of the Flesh: Transforming Evil in Soul and Society

Visionary theologian and best-selling author Matthew Fox offers a new theology of evil that fundamentally changes the traditional perception of good and evil and points the way to a more enlightened treatment of ourselves, one another, and all of nature. In comparing the Eastern tradition of the 7 chakras to the Western tradition of the 7 capital sins, Fox allows us to think creatively about our capacity for personal and institutional evil and what we can do about them.
“A scholarly masterpiece embodying a better vision and depth of perception far beyond the grasp of any one single science.  A breath-taking analysis.” — Diarmuid O’Murchu, author of Quantum Theology: Spiritual Implications of the New Physics

  1. Should Trump be re-elected ( partly due to the insurrection trial delay and mostly due to the disenfranchised populate and elected political puppets that support and will vote for him), the ‘response’ to the harm inflicted on democracy will be ongoing and take decades to unravel at great cost. — BB.

  2. It’s been spoken by many wise spiritual seekers and activists of the light of love; that the Mind tethered to the emotion of anger leads to Truth, and the Heart tethered to the more intense emotion of outrage leads to Compassion.

Mindfulness seeking Truth, Heartedness activating Compassion is to be the Supreme Court, governing the emotional energy of anger and outrage arising from within.

The image that arises, which metaphorically reflects this, is that of a bonfire, ablaze in the darkness of night, with the Spirit of the wind fanning the flames, sparks arising like stars in the skies, the heat warming the Heart and the light of the fire guiding the Mind to the choices of response to the Truth revealed and the Compassion emerging in the midst of the sacred movements of converging with the emotional energy of anger and outrage; being transformed into something greater from within.

When experiencing the emotional energy of anger and outrage, literally sit contemplatively at a bonfire, seeking the Supreme Court within, connecting with Spirit and at this Council of Fire you will learn how to judge and govern the inner movements of anger and outrage, tethering them to the Mindfulness of Truth and the Heartedness of Compassion.

  3. Maybe more attention should be given to movements line the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 that audaciously spells out a government restructuring with the same trappings of “The Project for the New American Century” years ago.
None of this would be taking place without worldwide dark monies and the true belief in a vision of a free and democratic society. And after government careers of system manipulation, they retire with padded pensions and benefits. Indeed we are living within Dante’s Inferno.

  4. Justice denied is Democracy destroyed. This Supreme Court is the dream of the
Conservative right extraordinary wealthy. It has been the plan since at least the
1970s. It exists to exercise pure political power at this point.
If we value justice we must hold them accountable publicly and elect those who
not afraid to reign in their power.

  5. It’s scary that the ‘Supreme’ Court is obviously partial to Trump and trying to delay his trial before the election. Our main hope of not jeapordizing our democracy further and not having a dictator as our president, is for Trump to lose the election in November. Hopefully, enough Americans will vote wisely to make this happen.

A prophetic poem from iconic American poet Lawrence Ferlingetti:

Pity the nation whose people are sheep,
    and whose shepherds mislead them.
Pity the nation whose leaders are liars, whose sages are silenced,
and whose bigots haunt the airwaves.
Pity the nation that raises not its voice,
except to praise conquerors and acclaim the bully as hero
and aims to rule the world with force and by torture.
Pity the nation that knows no other language but its own
and no other culture but its own.
Pity the nation whose breath is money
and sleeps the sleep of the too well fed.
Pity the nation — oh, pity the people who allow their rights to erode
and their freedoms to be washed away.
My country, tears of thee, sweet land of liberty. ~Lawrence Ferlinghetti

  7. The Supreme Court is a sad court. The absurdity of this group is reason to wonder if they’re is any hope for justice.

  8. The Supreme Court and Project 2025 (blatant blueprint for IMMEDIATE PLANS for theocracy) made it abundantly clear that they want theocracy to win. Republicans are so cocky that they don’t even bother to hide their plans for day 1 of the last day of democracy, IF they win.

In Wisconsin, we were the MOST gerrymandered state. We recently FOUGHT BACK. How?
    – HUGE numbers of people, especially angry WOMEN, voted to change our extreme total abortion ban and gerrymandering. An unquestionable, huge margin.

    – CONVINCING COLLEGE AGED STUDENTS that their vote was VITAL. This is not a game. We can’t afford temper tantrums of sitting out because “(DEMOCRAT NAME) didn’t do EXACTLY what I want.”. The president must plan his battles carefully and is NOT a dictator. He can’t command people in this (or any other) country to pass a bill, fund xyz, etc. A vote not cast in this tight race is a vote for the authoritarians. (Do you enjoy being powerless?)

    – INFORMATION – The mainstream presses have been bought by the corporate elite. They’re spreading propaganda for Trump. Find and share accurate information.

    – VIGILANCE- Keep an eye on every move the wanna-be dictators make. They will sneak back and re-take every inch of ground if they can.

    VOTE!!!!! It’s still our superpower.

  9. Katherine Sogolow

It took a billion dollars of dark money (corporate, lobbyist$) to get the current slate of white Christian nationalist judges on the court.
Those funding them do not care about Democracy and the rule of law— life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, equality—only their own view of so called christian, “religious,” patriarchal, “power over” law.
No respect for the poor, the immigrant, people of color or other religions or gender… We must raise up the voting voices of all the people to vote against such tyranny.. we are the ones we have been waiting for — to preserve our democracy and evolve into a compassionate, inclusive society with equality, peace, and justice for all.

  10. Thank you for this poem from one of my favorite poets, who wrote in what appeared to be simpler and “better” times. It helps to have some perspective and re-read Yeats’ classic “The Second Coming”, written after the first World War:”—Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,—The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity…..” https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43290/the-second-coming

For that matter, read the Bible, which is full of injustices and evils, and so on down through the millenia. There is a sort of karma to the worst of excesses, but it comes too late for many, and I don’t think I will see it in my lifetime. A Supreme Court in the 19th century made the infamous Dred Scott decision; it was made up mainly of southerners, and the president pressured one of the northern justices to go along with them. The point I am trying to make is that this current horror has happened before, and people have fought against it, and it has gone away, at least for a while. Just not quickly enough or thoroughly enough or finally enough.
