We continue our meditation on the Course in Miracles’ teaching about the antichrist and linking it to my recent book on Christ, Antichrist, and the 2024 election.*
We ended yesterday’s DM with this statement from the CIM: No one believes in idols who has not enslaved himself to littleness and loss.
The message of Jesus that we are part of the “kingdom of God” from the start is utterly lost in an idolatrous context. To recognize that truth, one needs look “within for certainly and quiet calm that liberates you from the world, and lets you stand apart, in quiet and in peace.” Yes, “the kingdom of God is within and among you” as Jesus taught.
Here CIM names the antichrist for the first time. “An idol is a false impression, or a false belief; some form of anti-Christ, that constitutes a gap between the Christ and what you see.” An idol is a wish that we make tangible and give form to and make real. “Yet it is still a thought and cannot leave the mind that is its source.”
The antichrist is in our heads we might say, and it is something we give birth to, it has no reality apart from that. “All forms of anti-Christ oppose the Christ.”
Notice that the anti-Christ comes in many forms, not just the form of a Donald Trump but in the form of SCOTUS and chief Justice Roberts author of Citizens United, etc., that has guaranteed so much dark money into our politics and has declared that corporations are people—though immortal people since they never die. Many MAGA politicians swim in lies that so mark the antichrist.
“This world of idols is a veil across the face of Christ, because its purpose is to separate your brother from yourself.” Division and the spreading of division is a key element of antichrist politics.
This idol has a “dark and fearful purpose,” but it is only a thought, an idea, an idol. “Its form is nowhere, for its source abides within our mind where God abideth not.” Evil is nothing. No thing. Our idols are nothing. Trump and MAGA are nothing. Their only power is the power we give them.
“Christ’s enemy is nowhere. He can take no form in which he ever will be real.” It is our belief that gives the idol form. Is this a way of talking about projection? We give idols their power and their form and their existence. “What is an idol? Nothing!”
If we give it its form and its life that also means we can take that away. “An idol is established by belief, and when it is withdrawn the idol ‘dies.’” This is the anti-Christ–“the strange idea” that there is a power greater than the Christ or God or spirit. What happens when antichrist energy takes charge is that “the peace of God forever given to all living things, gives way to chaos” and “the Son of God” suffers pain and dies.
What is common to all idol worship is the desire for more. More intelligence, wealth, beauty–even more affliction and more pain. More of something is what an idol is for. “An idol is a means for getting more. And it is this that is against God’s will.”
In other words, greed dominates the antichrist archetype. Just as Hildegard explains it in her painting and commentary that I reproduce in my book. Where there is greed, there is antichrist. And where there is antichrist there is greed. And lies. Lots of them. And darkness blocking the light for “behind the dark veil” there is still light.

Queries for Contemplation
Do you find insight about the antichrist and what it is and how it operates in these teachings from the Course in Miracles? And how it applies to the current presidential election and to present-day America where greed so often runs a capitalist system that dominates media and politics?

Trump & The MAGA Movement as Anti-Christ: A Handbook for the 2024 Election
Matthew Fox tells us that he had always shied away from using the term “Anti-Christ” because it was so often used to spread control and fear. However, given today’s rise of authoritarianism and forces of democracide, ecocide, and christofascism, he turns the tables in this book employing the archetype for the cause of justice, democracy, and a renewed Earth and humanity.
From the Foreword: If there was ever a time, a moment, for examining the archetype of the Antichrist, it is now…Read this book with an open mind. Good and evil are real forces in our world. ~~ Caroline Myss, author of Anatomy of the Spirit and Conversations with the Divine.

Sins of the Spirit, Blessings of the Flesh: Transforming Evil in Soul and Society
Visionary theologian and best-selling author Matthew Fox offers a new theology of evil that fundamentally changes the traditional perception of good and evil and points the way to a more enlightened treatment of ourselves, one another, and all of nature. In comparing the Eastern tradition of the 7 chakras to the Western tradition of the 7 capital sins, Fox allows us to think creatively about our capacity for personal and institutional evil and what we can do about them.
“A scholarly masterpiece embodying a better vision and depth of perception far beyond the grasp of any one single science. A breath-taking analysis.” — Diarmuid O’Murchu, author of Quantum Theology: Spiritual Implications of the New Physics
Original Blessing: A Primer in Creation Spirituality
Matthew Fox lays out a whole new direction for Christianity—a direction that is in fact very ancient and very grounded in Jewish thinking (the fact that Jesus was a Jew is often neglected by Christian theology): the Four Paths of Creation Spirituality, the Vias Positiva, Negativa, Creativa and Transformativa in an extended and deeply developed way.
“Original Blessing makes available to the Christian world and to the human community a radical cure for all dark and derogatory views of the natural world wherever these may have originated.” –Thomas Berry, author, The Dream of the Earth; The Great Work; co-author, The Universe Story
The Hidden Spirituality of Men: Ten Metaphors to Awaken the Sacred Masculine
To awaken what Fox calls “the sacred masculine,” he unearths ten metaphors, or archetypes, ranging from the Green Man, an ancient pagan symbol of our fundamental relationship with nature, to the Spiritual Warrior….These timeless archetypes can inspire men to pursue their higher calling to connect to their deepest selves and to reinvent the world.
“Every man on this planet should read this book — not to mention every woman who wants to understand the struggles, often unconscious, that shape the men they know.” — Rabbi Michael Lerner, author of The Left Hand of God

I appreciate this powerful message today, and the thoughtful spiritual work of Father Fox that gives us tools for interpreting today’s chaotic elements.
By definition then based on the above commentary, is anything short of complete communion with Christ consciousness, our existence as the ‘anti-Christ’? There is a difference between the full disregard and opposition to God’s eternal domain and our ignorance. Are we then, as incomplete vestiges of the Living God, to be judges of others? Are we not eternally asked that ‘those without sin, to throw the first rock’? Let us not throw rocks then when we are to ‘raise each other up’, just as we ask the Lord to raise us up. This is in no way a laisse faire and hands off endorsement of evil, rather one of reflection on the self-righteousness and high esteem which we hold ourselves in.– BB.
Yes! Yes! “The Anti-Christ comes in many forms…”, and it’s only real because of the power we give it when we’re separated from the Divine Source of LOVE and TRUTH Present within and among US….
