EPA: Environmental Protection Agency or Ecocidal Promotion Agency?

The EPA was born on December 2, 1970 in an executive order by Republican President Richard Nixon. Congressional hearings followed. It was a time when rivers were catching fire regularly in the United States.

Former EPA administrators describe impact of ending regulations, slashing agency. PBS NewsHour

It was effectively murdered on July 29, 2025 by the MAGA Republican White House occupant*. Will the MAGA congress object—or lawsuits succeed in time to rescue it?

Under MAGA’S domain, EPA is no longer an Agency to Protect the Environment, but an Agency for Promoting Ecocide. And, of course, Matricide.

This latest version of EPA is sure to result in the killing of Mother Earth as we know her and future generations of children. Therefore it is a movement of Matricide, killing of our Mother for generations coming after us.

It will result in more global warming and more environmental hazards, polluted air, toxins, wildfires, hurricanes and more rape of Mother Earth. It promises more quick cash in the pockets of fossil fuel corporations that do not want to be bothered by laws that suggest the common good matters.

Or that capitalism and profits should have limits. It is the epitome of what Pope Francis called, “savage capitalism.” Its premise is that justice for future generations of plants, animals, and humans has no place at the table when decisions are made in boardrooms and on Wall Street that decide the future of our planet.

Will the Mothers, Fathers, Grandparents and Great Grandparents of America rise up and tell it like it is?  And vote MAGA out?

It impacts not just Americans–what happens to Mother Earth in America or anyplace else on Earth affects all humans and all other-than-human creatures all around the planet.

Will religions rise up and shout about this evil killing going on?  Will the American Catholic Bishops leave Opus Dei behind, stand up and shout out on behalf of Mother Earth as Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Sí instructed us to do? Will every Catholic parish in America do the same?

Saint and Doctor of the Church Hildegard of Bingen had this to say about protecting Mother Earth:

“Legend of Aataentsic…Mother Earth” Photo by Dennis Jarvis from the MosaiCulture Gatineau on Flickr.

The Earth should not be injured!
The Earth should not be destroyed!
The earth is at the same time Mother.
She is the Mother of all that is natural,
Mother of all that is human.
She is the Mother of all,
for contained in her are the seeds of all.

In another prayer she identifies God, the “I am,” and Wisdom with Earth itself—which means MAGA’s killing of the Earth is deicide as well.

As I wrote about in my book on the Cosmic Christ 27 years ago, Gaia is being crucified. This time, it is not the Roman Empire that is nailing Jesus to the cross, but MAGA that is nailing Gaia to the cross.

Hildegard writes (Wisdom and God are speaking):

“Forest River Nature Sounds – Gentle Stream with Birdsong.” Naturescapes

I am the one whose praise echoes on high.
I adorn all the earth.
I am the breeze that nurtures all things green.
I encourage blossoms to flourish with ripening fruits.
I am led by the spirit to feed the purest streams.
I am the rain coming from the dew
that causes the grasses to laugh with the joy of life
I call forth tears, the aroma of holy work
I am the yearning for good.

In the murder of the EPA, we are witnessing the mortal sin of ecocide—meaning a deadly choice by every congress person and citizen who does not stand up and object. And the media—will they object? Will the churches speak loud and clear? Will everyone with a conscience in our nation?

Do you agree with Hildegard that Mother Earth is the Mother of all that is natural and all that is human and the Mother of all? How does this translate into your politics?

Hildegard of Bingen, A Saint for Our Times: Unleashing Her Power in the 21st Century

Matthew Fox writes in Hildegard of Bingen about this amazing woman and what we can learn from her.
In an era when women were marginalized, Hildegard was an outspoken, controversial figure. Yet so visionary was her insight that she was sought out by kings, popes, abbots, and bishops for advice.
“This book gives strong, sterling, and unvarnished evidence that everything – everything – we ourselves become will affect what women after us may also become….This is a truly marvelous, useful, profound, and creative book.” ~~ Andrew Harvey, author of The Hope: A Guide to Sacred Activism.

The Coming of the Cosmic Christ: The Healing of Mother Earth and the Birth of a Global Renaissance

In what may be considered the most comprehensive outline of the Christian paradigm shift of our Age, Matthew Fox eloquently foreshadows the manner in which the spirit of Christ resurrects in terms of the return to an earth-based mysticism, the expression of creativity, mystical sexuality, the respect due the young, the rebirth of effective forms of worship—all of these mirroring the ongoing blessings of Mother Earth and the recovery of Eros, the feminine aspect of the Divine.
“The eighth wonder of the world…convincing proof that our Western religious tradition does indeed have the depth of imagination to reinvent its faith.” — Brian Swimme, author of The Universe Story and Journey of the Universe.
“This book is a classic.” Thomas Berry, author of The Great Work and The Dream of the Earth.

Creation Spirituality: Liberating Gifts for the Peoples of the Earth

Fox’s spirituality weds the healing and liberation found in North American Creation Spirituality and in South American Liberation Theology. Creation Spirituality challenges readers of every religious and political persuasion to unite in a new vision through which we learn to honor the earth and the people who inhabit it as the gift of a good and just Creator.

“I am reading Liberating Gifts for the People of the Earth by Matt Fox.  He is one that fills my heart and mind for new life in spite of so much that is violent in our world.” ~ Sister Dorothy Stang.

Original Blessing: A Primer in Creation Spirituality

Matthew Fox lays out a whole new direction for Christianity—a direction that is in fact very ancient and very grounded in Jewish thinking (the fact that Jesus was a Jew is often neglected by Christian theology): the Four Paths of Creation Spirituality, the Vias Positiva, Negativa, Creativa and Transformativa in an extended and deeply developed way.
Original Blessing makes available to the Christian world and to the human community a radical cure for all dark and derogatory views of the natural world wherever these may have originated.” –Thomas Berry, author, The Dream of the Earth; The Great Work; co-author, The Universe Story

Trump & The MAGA Movement as Anti-Christ: A Handbook for the 2024 Election

Matthew Fox tells us that he had always shied away from using the term “Anti-Christ” because it was so often used to spread control and fear. However, given today’s rise of authoritarianism and forces of democracide, ecocide, and christofascism, he turns the tables in this book employing the archetype for the cause of justice, democracy, and a renewed Earth and humanity.
From the Foreword: If there was ever a time, a moment, for examining the archetype of the Antichrist, it is now…Read this book with an open mind. Good and evil are real forces in our world. ~~ Caroline Myss, author of Anatomy of the Spirit and Conversations with the Divine.

  1. “She weeps not when the vandals do tear Her body with wounds. She weeps not when the fools do commit foul acts against the very Nature which forms Her fruits.
“As yet, man, She has borne you.
“I request most strongly NOW – that you do not take such for granted.
“She has not, as yet, demanded that you change – or leave.”

The Master Jesus from “The Twelve Blessings”, September 7th, 1958.

  2. The mitigating effect to capitalism’s neoliberal soft power destroyed by MAGA is disastrous, but even with soft power, we were headed towards the apocalypse.

  3. Outclassed: How the Left Lost the Working Class and How to Win Them Back by Joan C. Williams, which leans into an overlooked factor in the MAGA takeover: The values of people who have more education, vs. those who have less education — in other words, CLASS. Chapter 24 deals directly with the Climate Change issue. She points out why it means very little (or nothing) to the working class: “You can’t be worrying about the end of the world, when you’re worrying about the end of the month.” When you have too much month at the end of your money, you have no bandwidth to even THINK about anything else. Doesn’t help matters that eco-responsibility has been framed as coming at the expense of the one thing the working class is not willing to sacrifice: blue-collar jobs.
Ms. Williams spends the rest of the chapter proposing ways to turn the blue-collar jobs argument from a weakness into a strength.

  4. Mother Earth is indeed the Sacred Incarnation of the DIVINE FEMININE with All Her LOVE~WISDOM —Truth, Peace, Justice, Healing, Forgiveness, Transformation, Strength, Creativity, Beauty, Joy, Compassion, Loving Diverse ONENESS… ETERNALLY PRESENT within, through, among US… COMPASSIONATE COSMIC CHRIST/BUDDHA CONSCIOUSNESS….

  5. More from Hildegard of Bingen…

    “The high,
    the low
    of all creation,
God gives to humankind to use. If this privilege is misused,
God’s Justice permits creation to punish humanity.”

Sadly, we are seeing this unfold each day as forest fires rage, and storms and floods destroy, and the powers that be wage ever more destructive wars…

Sometimes I feel so powerless in the face of all that is happening – but then I realize that if I give up to despair then the powers of darkness will have already won. And so, I choose not to give up, to not take this gift of life lightly, to try to live each day so that in some way I give back more than I receive.

  6. Hi Matt!
Thank you so very much for all you share and encourage. Very important. And thank you too for the soothing and calming beautiful nature music. It’s helpful for me.

    Love and gratitude,
    Kristal Parks

  7. On page 52 of Evening Thoughts, Thomas Berry writes : “As regards our own specifically Western responsibilities, we must note that, although we have developed a moral teaching concerned with suicide, homicide, and genocide, we have developed no effective teachings concerned with biocide, the killing of the life systems of the Earth, or geocide,
the killing of the Earth itself.” (Even the computer AutoCorrect underlines biocide and geocide as unknown or misspelled words!)
One must therefore face the inconvenient truth that Matthew 27:25 was shouted loud and clear on November 5, 2024 by the more than 165 million Americans who voted MAGA or who did not vote at all : “Her blood be on us, and on our children.”
