No Kings Day is this Saturday when millions of Americans will march to protest what America is becoming under MAGA. I certainly will be among them.

“It matters in the biggest possible way.” Third Act co-founder Bill McKibben insists mass gatherings such as those planned on March 28, expressing public dissent against MAGA policies, empower Americans. MS NOW

Satire catches the public’s attention and one satirical proposal put forward comes from the “Trillionaires for Trump” lobby.

“Dear aspiring billionaires,” it begins.

Already planning on going to the next No Kings Day on Saturday, March 28? Why not go in style? High style. In top hat and tux or tiara and evening gown? Yes, you too can join Trillionaires for Trump and hit the street in your town chanting: “Billionaires united will never be indicted!”

Put on your finest Gilded Age evening wear and you too can join the ranks of the .000001% on our mission to highlight how our system of government serves the interests of wealthy elites rather than the People….We need you to get your ass(ets) into the streets to continue our momentum across the country.

They propose slogans to shout along the way and maybe put on signs: “Corporations are People Too” and “You say ‘No Kings,’ We say ‘MORE BLING!” “Wealth Care, not Health Care.” Everyone knows after all that billionaires, budding trillionaires and Epstein Elites are a persecuted minority in America. But not for long. The trend under MAGA is clear to see. The invitation is signed, “From the Trillionaires for Trump secret lair.” You can join “Trillionaires For Trump” HERE.

Satire goes a long way in protest and interfering and uniting peoples under oppression. Give your best to the cause.

A very substantive contribution to understanding what is unfolding in America came again this week from Thom Hartmann. Last year he had the courage that every religious journal I know lacked, to interview me about my book, Trump & The MAGA Movement as Anti-Christ (see below).

This week’s article by Hartmann is poignantly titled “America Didn’t Just Change—It Was Systematically Poisoned.” And subtitled, “How decades of corporate power and political strategy rewired the country from within…” *

“Is Trump The Anti-Christ? This Theologian Has Proof.” Thom Hartmann interviews Matthew Fox.

Hartmann lays out the history that has brought us to this moment of America teetering on the precipice of democracy’s demise. While acknowledging that Trump the man “is poison,” the trouble did not begin with him. “First came the poison of big money corrupting politics.” In the 1970s, tobacco lawyer Lewis Powell denounced regulations on tobacco and Ralph Nader’s push for seat belts and Rachel Carson’s environmental warnings as bringing communism to America and threatening its free enterprise system.

Richard Nixon put Powell on the Supreme Court where he authored “Boston v. Bellotti” which ruled that “money wasn’t money: it was speech.” That “produced a tsunami of corporate money” for the GOP in the 1980 elections that Reagan commandeered and Democrats followed suit in 1992 under Bill Clinton and the “New Democrats.” It set us up for Citizens United.

1984-era resistance: “Stop Union Busting – Dump Reagan” political button. From Pngkey.com.

Big business and billionaires discovered that a few million dollars can result in trillions in returns. More recently, “Republicans on the Supreme Court legalized” this “democracy-killing corruption.” Union bosses were demonized, right-wing radio and Fox “news” echoed the message. When Reagan came into office, the middle class constituted about 60-65% of America. Today it is under 45%.

The poisoning of American race relations occurred with Nixon’s “southern strategy” right up to Trump’s “Mexican rapists” memes and Muslim hating and ICE raids. Evangelical preachers like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson and the explosion of the NRA were part of the mix and today white supremacists and Christian nationalists reign in some very high places in government and the military.

I strongly recommend reading Hartmann’s important history lesson in its entirety.  And resist. And march. And laugh. And do satire. And bring your values to the body politic.

Are you attending No Kings Day or supporting those who are? How important do you think satire can be? How spread it more? How does Hartmann’s history lesson assist your understanding of where America is today as a country?

  1. Your interview was wonderful. Thank you! My partner and I attend each rally as designated peacekeepers and will be there this Saturday. We just attended training again and it was much more sobering. Not only did our trainer (a retired police officer) remind us about de-escalation strategies, but even though we have open carry rights in Arizona, to call the police if we see a gun. These events are usually uplifting, even fun, and we expect about 4,000 people at ours; but we talked about what to do if there is a car used as a weapon or an active shooter. Since there will be thousands at our peaceful rally, a gun (on either side) is not welcome. Luckily, the police in our red county are fully supportive of our rights. It’s a little scary, but we are there for our democracy, our planet, our kids, and our grandchildren. Satire is excellent. How can you call demonstrators for democracy as terrorists if they are wearing frog costumes and singing hymns? It points out the absurdity of the MAGA administration’s attempts to vilify those standing up for democracy, the rule of law, justice, and the Constitution?

  2. I will be attending again this Saturday. I will dress in black. I will bring my basket of strands of red yarn to tie around the trunks of trees. A symbol. Each strand a life lost. A man woman or child who bled out on our Mother Earth. Just as Sr Dorothy Stang bled out on the floor of that Amazon Forrest.
When folks approach asking me what it means I ask them what they think it means and conversation happens. One woman embraced me crying thanking me and asked for a red strand to take home. She shared a memory of her life in Poland during WWII.
When the crowds are gone I drive by and see the red yarn wrapped around the trees.
We were there. Our voices matter. Art as Meditation.

  3. Yes! Yes! Yes! Great DM, great satire, great prophetic book by Matthew Fox (“Trump & the MAGA Movement as Anti-Christ”), and great article by Thom Hartmann, “America Didn’t Just Change — It Was Systematically Poisoned” (just press the * at the end of the DM to reproduce the article). Let’s see all lightworkers of Truth Peace Justice on the streets united for No Kings Day this Saturday, March 30!!!
