February 23, 2026: Gifts From Today’s Science that Can Grow the Soul by Awakening Awe
In his book, The Hidden Spirituality of Men, Matthew talks about the archetype of Father Sky. In this DM, he shares several ways in which Joel Primack and Nancy Abrams write about the uniqueness of our Earth and her ability to harbor life. For instance, Jupiter’s massive gravitational pull has helped to protect Earth from being struck by too many comets. Furthermore, the distance of Earth from the sun is just right—were it closer to the sun, water would evaporate; were it farther from the sun, water would be permanently frozen. Also, our moon is unusually large compared to other planets with moons, and this has kept the tilt of the Earth’s axis practically constant at around 23.5 degrees, which gives us the seasons that make plant life possible. In other words, conditions for life are “just right,” and we are blessed to be here.

February 24, 2026: More Gifts From Science that Awaken Awe & Gratitude & Expand the Soul
In their book The View from the Center of the Universe, Joel Primack and Nancy Abrams discuss humanity’s special moment in the history of the universe. We are living in “the midpoint of time for our solar system” when our sun and planets are about five billion years old. Around six billion years from now, our sun will expand and burn Earth to a crisp. Our times are special because accelerating expansion is carrying the most distant galaxies away ever faster, and they are disappearing over the cosmic horizon…. Primack and Abrams conclude that humans are significant to the universe. We are special—special for our size, for our intelligence and creativity, and for the time in which we live at this moment of the universe’s expansion over its 14-billion-year history.

February 25, 2026: A Report from an Interspirituality Symposium
Matthew spoke recently at an Interspirituality Symposium on the topic: “The Future of Interspirituality: From Awareness to Action.” One speaker who was especially powerful, in Matthew’s estimation, was Rocky Dawuni, a Ghanaian singer and four-time Grammy-nominee. He spoke about how all peoples are children of God and that we manifest God not through isolation but through “spiritual activism.” He also suggests that the first temple or church is Nature. Our relationship to nature, said Rocky, is fundamental. His culture used to emphasize how trees and rivers were considered sacred and each was assigned a personal name. All this nourished a deep spirituality, but today “Drill, drill, drill” is the mantra and the sacredness of nature is being diminished.

February 26, 2026: The Cosmos and Other Original Blessings: Lessons From Mother Africa
Matthew reflects on the topic of Original Blessing and how, in Chapter One of Genesis, over and over, creation is praised as good. Matthew said: It baffles me how two previous popes condemned me for the phrase, “original blessing.” Perhaps those ill at ease with the concept engage in what Pope Francis rightly called “species narcissism”—they think first about humanity and not about creation. But, not only is creation good, but it is very good, even with us on board. It is also sacred, as Rocky Dawuni proclaimed. It is bigger than us. It birthed us; we did not birth it. African-American philosopher Dona Marimba Richards teaches how for Africans, the universe is conceived as a unified spiritual totality….The spiritual is the foundation of all being because the universe is sacred.

February 27, 2026: How Indigenous Rituals in America & Africa Bring Connection to the Whole
Indigenous wisdom in both American and Africa speaks of the sacredness of creation. Says Black Elk: Peace comes within the souls of humans when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the Universe dwells Wakan-Tanka (the Great Spirit), and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us. From the African tradition, Dona Marimba Richards says, “Few have understood what music is to us. Black music is sacred music. It is the expression of the divine within us.” She says that we become “part of the whole,” and music puts us in tune with the universe. It explains to us the mysterious workings of the universe and ourselves as cosmic beings….As in ritual, in music, the human and the Divine meet.

February 28, 2028: Do Ancestors Connect To Us After Death? A Story From Nancy Abrams
Nancy Abrams co-wrote two books with her husband, Joel Primack, the renowned astrophysicist. Her third book is called A God that Could Be Real.* Athough Joel and Nancy are scientists, at his memorial service Nancy shared a story  that raises questions about afterlife communication. She reported that a few days before the service, she went downstairs to do the laundry and that Dust had formed into three galaxies in different stages of formation. Joel was a world expert on galaxy formation. I had not been in this room for days, no one else had been in the house, and the only window was shut. What could have caused this? Nancy took a photo and sent it to her daughter, who replied that one of Joel’s favorite sayings was a line from Sherlock Holmes: “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” Nancy continued: So – to all you scientists out there: I am absolutely open to a convincing theory of what caused this. But I will say, if ever there were a message from Joel, this would be it.
